Duties and
Responsibilities:
Optometrist treats people with vision problems. They first check to
see what the problem is then they prescribe what they need like glasses,
contact lenses, or vision therapy. Optometrists are different from ophthalmologists,
they do not perform surgery. Most
optometrists are self-employed. They could be either hired at hospitals,
government agencies, and optical manufactures.

Educational Requirements:
Students
interested in becoming an optometrist should take the most challenging high
school courses available in math, science, and English. Before entering
an optometry school at least two years of college in a pre-professional program
is required. Optometry school is four years in length. After being
awarded the degree of Doctor of Optometry, optometrists must pass state exams
before starting to practice.
